Starting a blog for your business

Most people I’ve spoken with about starting a blog for their business have said they unsure what to write about or how to get started. I would sugest that before you start a blog read up on your compeitiors blogs and others in your market. You can test your blog voice by leaving comments on other blogs.

When you feel you are ready to start blogging make sure your blog address is yourwebsitedomain.com/blog or youblogdomain.com try and avoid signing up for a free blog as offered by blogger, wordpress or typepad. We use wordpress to set up a blog on your own domain, this ensures that your blog always remains yours.

There is no point in starting a blog that doesn’t have a purpose and a plan behind the blog.

I came across a realtors blog not too long ago. Beautifully done. Good information. But no marketing plan. This individual even had a counter on the site. And in six months I believe I was the first visitor. I tend to find things in a round about way.

So obviously starting a blog may not be a good idea for everyone.

Another downside is a poorly written blog can actually be very bad for your companies image.

So by all means start a blog, but have a purpose for your project, write a plan, and make your message mean something.

I agree, too often we have created blogs for clients because their competitors have one. Not only do they not have a plan for their blog but they have not even updated it, which does more harm than good.
